Mary B. (Boatman) Johnson, 75, a long-time resident of Swanzey died peacefully while sleeping after a brief period of declining health.

She was born the daughter of the late Nellie B. (Miller) and Samual A. Boatman Jr. on September 1, 1942 in Beckley, West Virginia.

On March 26, 1963 she exchanged vows with Arnold E. Johnson at the Gardner Presbyterian Church in in Gardner Kansas. They were married with family and friends in attendance and have been married for fifty-five years.

Rev. Dr. Mary Johnson, Th.M, D.Min., the author of “Women Of God: Heroes For Today” has served as an Ordained Minister since 1975 both as a Parish Pastor and in diverse Specialized Ministry Settings. She has extensive parish, chaplaincy, preaching, educational, leadership, administrative, Clinical Counseling, teaching, and Clinical Supervisory experience. Dr. Johnson is skilled in consultation, clinical evaluations, psychological assessments, DSM clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and individual, family, marital, and group counseling and counselor supervision and training.

Her Doctor of Ministry Degree in Psychology and Clinical Studies from Andover Newton in Newton, Mass. is unique in its integrative emphasis on psychology, clinical work, and theology. A Th.M., Cum Laude, from Boston University School of Theology combined a Dual Integrative Major in Pastoral Counseling and Biblical Studies. Her B. S., Cum Laude, from Black Hills State University, in Spearfish, South Dakota, integrated a Major in History with Minors in Political Science and Education. She has also studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, American University in Washington, D.C., and The College of Emporia in Emporia, Kansas.

Dr. Johnson is a Nationally Board-Certified Counselor and a Nationally Certified Pastoral Counselor. She has held certification as a Clinical Member of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (A.C.P.E.). Dr. Johnson has remained a N.H. State Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor since the inception of State licensure and was instrumental in developing and ensuring passage of the original NH certification/licensure law. She has been included in “Who’s Who Among Human Services Professionals” and “Who’s Who In Religion.” Dr. Johnson has also served on the Adjunct Faculty of Antioch New England Graduate School, Gordon Conwell, Keene State College, Goddard College, UNH, etc.

Rev. Dr. Johnson has served on the Clinical Staff of New England Memorial Hospital and Middleton Pastoral Counseling Center in Massachusetts and Renew and Green Pastures Counseling Centers in New Hampshire. She has had diverse pastoral experience and served as a pastor in Congregational, Methodist, Assembly of God, and Independent churches. Dr. Johnson has also worked extensively in Hospital Chaplaincy at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts and Tewksbury State Hospital in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. She was appointed to the Clinical and Supervisory Staff for the training of Chaplain Interns while at Tewksbury where she served as a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Supervisor.

Rev. Dr. Johnson currently is involved in a team ministry with her husband, Pastor Arnie Johnson. She preaches in various denominational churches in New Hampshire and presents a variety of seminars on vital topics. She is also presently acting as an Educational Consultant to various organizations including Good News Specialized Ministries, Inc. in North Swanzey, NH. Rev. Dr. Johnson served as Executive Director and Clinical Director of Good News from 1983-2005 after founding this unique non-profit ministry. Good News, Inc. has provided education and Clinical Christian Counseling to thousands of people over the years and trained over 100 Clinical Counselors and Counseling Ministers while providing weekly non-denominational worship services to the community until 2005. The current emphasis of Good News, Inc. is educational in nature.

Dr. Johnson is the author of ten other published books currently available online at the Amazon Bookstore or Barnes & Noble. She has also been published in the AAPC professional Journal “Journeys” and in the Keene Sentinel. Both her life-long devotion to a Healing Ministry and her love for people are apparent in all her work and writings.
She has lived in the beautiful Monadnock region of southwestern New Hampshire with her family for the past 25 years. Dr. Johnson has a strong life-long love of family, poetry, nature, art, painting, writing, gardening, and God’s people. She was born in West Virginia and was raised in Oklahoma and Kansas. After marrying an Air Force career officer, their assignments included Texas, California, South Dakota, and New Hampshire. She is the mother of two sons. Her early training was as a commercial artist and teacher.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband Arnold “Arnie” E. Johnson of Swanzey. Her son, Scott Dakota of Swanzey. In addition, she leaves cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mary is pre-deceased by her sister, Frances “Carolin” Barber who passed earlier and her son, Jon E. Johnson who passed in 2007.A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1pm. in the United Methodist Church, 43 Concord St. Peterborough, NH. 03458.
