Margaret Shirley (Martin) Wright, 84, a longtime resident of Keene, formerly of Marlborough, NH passed away peacefully on January 3rd. 2019.
Margaret was born at home to Alphonse and Shirley (Colemena) Martin on August 17th 1934 in Marlborough, NH. She graduated from Marlborough High School in 1952
On August 8th 1953 Margaret and Lawrence Wright married at Sacred Heart Church in Marlborough. They began their married life in Puerto Rico where Larry was stationed with the US Navy, later they resided in Swanzey for a short time before moving to Keene in 1962.
After the last of her six children were in school, she worked at the Woodward Retirement Home as the evening cook for 25 years, before retiring in 1992.
Margaret was the neighborhood “mom”; her aim was to make people feel loved, comfortable and welcome. She liked nothing more than being surrounded by family and friends and hosting gatherings at her home.
Margaret enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for weddings and other occasions. Much of her time was spent sewing, knitting, doing crafts and spending time with grandchildren. She loved shopping at the “dented can” or anywhere else she could find a bargain. Travel was another favorite past time; Margaret and Larry drove cross country several times and have visited most of the 50 United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. She and Larry also traveled to Canada and Mexico and enjoyed transcontinental visits to England and Belgium.
Her faith and family were close to her heart. She was a member of the Church of God Of Greenville, OH.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lawrence Wright, and her six children and their spouses; Christine and her late husband Chuck Beauregard of Keene, Tony and Peggy Wright of Marlborough, Rick and Kelly Wright of Keene, Jon and Karen Wright of Keene, Michelle and Keith Maddox of Greenville, OH, Nicole and Ernie Smalley of Marlborough. Her siblings: Mary and Theresa Martin of Keene, and Catherine Breed of Punta Gorda Florida. 15 Grandchildren; Chuck, Andrew, Amy, Heather, Nichole, Danny, David, Nick, Nate, Andrea, Meghan, Keichelle, Dominick, Jennifer and Cara. 10 Great Children: Alexis, Kai, Austin, Anthony, Lilly, Mathew, Cory, Margaret, Ella and Colton. As well as two great-great grandchildren, Logan and Edwin.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 10th from 5-7 pm and a celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on Friday, January 11th at 11AM, both services will be held at The Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, at 44 Maple Ave in Keene, NH. Brother Randy Hargrave will officiate. Burial will follow in the family lot at Monadnock View Cemetery on Park Ave in Keene, NH. 03431.
