Margaret F. (Harty) Hamel, 62, of New Salem and formerly of Haverhill, died unexpectedly on October 16, 2015 in the comfort of her home in Swanzey, NH.
Margaret was born the daughter of the late Mary (Abdullah) and Joseph Harty on January 1, 1953 in Hartford, CT. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering.
On September 3rd, 1971 she exchanged vows with the love of her life Raymond G. Hamel at Saint Mary’s Church in Lawrence, MA. Sadly he passed in 1999 after 27 years of marriage.
For fun Margaret enjoyed shopping and going to the beach. She liked to read a good book and valued her time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren. When time permitted Margaret liked to travel to Maine and Florida. Margaret opened her home to many foster dogs, and volunteered time at local animal shelters.
Mrs. Hamel is survived by her children: Frances M. Lancaster of New Salem, Kristal A. Hamel of Webster, MA. and Joseph R. Hamel of Greenfield, MA. A sister, Marianne Mehlhorn of Maryland. Four grandchildren; Tiffany Odel, Samantha Aldis, Connor Malek and Cayleigh Hamel. In addition she leaves cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
