Madlyn “Coke” (Chickering) Snyder

Madlyn “Coke” (Chickering) Snyder, 82, a long time resident of Westmoreland, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Madlyn was born the daughter of the late Alice (Herrick) and Samuel Chickering on February 14, 1932 in Westmoreland. She was educated locally and graduated from Keene High school class of 1949. She then continued with her studies and received her RN degree from Elliot Community Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.

On May 11, 1952 she exchanged vows with James Jim W. Snyder at the Walpole Congregational Church. They were married for almost sixty two years.

Madlyn worked as a nurse for many years and retired from Cedarcrest Childrens Home in Keene in 2000. She was also the owner of Superior View Ceramics and later, Superior View and Candy Too in Westmoreland.

Madlyn was a woman of faith and member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Keene. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, canning and cooking and was an avid bird watcher. She and her husband especially enjoyed the winter months at their Florida home. Family was always a priority for Madlyn as she loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Snyder is survived by her husband Jim Snyder of Westmoreland; her three daughters, Susan Kelley and her husband Michael of Milan, NH, Deborah Melanson of Westmoreland and Jennifer Symonds and her husband Mark of Westmoreland; siblings Adeline Olmstead of Westmoreland, Arthur Jim Chickering of Westmoreland, Samuel Chickering of South Deerfield, MA, Brenda Kelly of Winchester and Sally Chickering of Charlestown, SC. In addition she leaves her grandchildren Sean, Patrick and Erin Kelley; Nicole and Katie Melanson; Kristen and Matthew Symonds, along with four great-grandchildren, Lily and Rose Kelley and McKenna and Caitlin Kelley.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431 at 11:00 am. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. Donations can be made in memory of Madlyn C. Snyder to Hospice and Community Services, 312 Marlboro St. Keene, NH. 03431 or Cedarcrest Childrens Home, 91 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431.
