, 86, of Richmond and late of Talbot Hill Road, Swanzey Center, died peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at the home of her son, after a long illness.

She was born on July 27, 1930, the daughter and seventh child of the late Ruth K. (Smith) and Harry E. Wilson. She grew up and attended Swanzey Schools and graduated from Keene High School in 1948.

On October 15, 1948, she married Arthur G. Hagar, Sr. in the parsonage of the Court Street Congregational Church by Rev. William Sipe, with their friends, Howard and Beverly (Yoerger) Frink in attendance. They moved to Swanzey in 1952 and were married 36 years before Arthur died on July 20, 1984.

She was an at home wife and mother most of her married life, raising her five (5) children and spending time with her friends and neighbors. She enjoyed many a day with her neighbor of the time, Donna Wyman (now Carey) working on projects with Artex Liquid Embroidery, and there were lots of weekends camping with her family. She was involved with her family during the summer for many years with the annual production of The Old Homestead in the Salvation Army in Act III and helping with costumes in her later years.

In the late sixties she became employed as the cook at the Keene Day Care Center and worked there for 15 years until 1984 shortly after her husband died. She then worked at Findings, Inc. and then finally at Douglas Cuddle Toys where she worked until she retired in 1992.

She was a long-time active member of the First Congregational Church having joined shortly after moving to Swanzey in 1952. She had served on every committee but Trustees and her longest commitment was with Christian Education for 17 years. She was also active early on in the vocal choir.

Mrs. Hagar is survived by her five (5) children: Arthur [Chip] (Barbie) Hagar, Jr of Richmond with whom she made her home the last eighteen (18) months; Kathleen M. Hagar of Keene; Robert A. Hagar and Joan E. Hagar, both of West Swanzey and Julie A. (Andrew) Reekie of Troy, N.H. Her grandchildren: Candi Hagar and her fiancé, Gary Parrott of Richmond; Michael Hagar and his wife, Melanie Young, of Swanzey Center; Scott and Brenda Hagar of Unity, NH, Tina and Noel Raymond, Jr. of Chesterfield, N.H., Jessica and Kevin Sharkey of Rochester, N.H.; Penni and Kevin Carey of Swanzey NH; Jodi (Hagar) Young of St. Helens, Oregon; Rachel Reekie of Troy and Keene, N.H.; Dr. Sheila and Dr. Larry Shranatan of Fredericksburg, Maryland; Michelle Jackson of Swanzey; Greg Morris of Colchester, Vermont. Great-Grandchildren: Meghan (Merchant) and Ben Prescott and Tyler Merchant; Amber, Jennifer, Katie Hagar; Ashley and Ryan Raymond; Jacob, Jordan and Kyla Sharkey; Sean Dunham, Kevin, Jr., Sonja and Leam Carey; Thomas and Dominic Young; Ciera Schumacher, Dylan and Aaron Jackson, Wyatt and Lizzie Morris, Michaela and Aiden Shranatan and her two beloved great-great-grandchildren, Benjamin Prescott and Paisley Fiset. She is also survived by her remaining sister, Vera (Wilson) [Andy] Thomsen of Swanzey and her sister-in-law, Carol (Arnold) Wilson of Reno, Nevada, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings: Evelyn, Obid and Arnold Wilson, Sylvia Roundy, Avis Longabardi, Laura Patria and Edna Adams as well as granddaughter, Theresa Hagar and great-grandson, Daulton J. Raymond.

In keeping with Lura’s wishes there ae no calling hours. A celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, 679 Old Homestead Highway, Swanzey Center, NH. 03446 with a reception immediately following.
