Joyce C. (Campbell) Smith, 84, of Keene died on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. She passed peacefully with the love of family near after a brief period of declining health.
Joyce was born the daughter of the late Una M. (Sherman) and Howard J. Campbell on April 16, 1934 in Woodsville. She was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1952.
On February 19, 1956 she exchanged vows with Stanley B. Smith at the Lutheran Church in Keene. Sadly, Stanley passed on September 18, 1999 after forty-three years of marriage.
Joyce was fortunate enough to find love once again. She met Harry A. Winter at church and there first date was at a square dance. They have been inseparable for the past sixteen years.
Joyce was a teacher and educator. She taught for the Surattsville School District in Maryland for two years. She was also a substitute teacher when she lived in Spain and New Jersey. She finished her career as a librarian for the City of Keene working with the community for twenty-nine years.
She enjoyed dancing socially with her friends, especially Ball Room Dancing. Joyce was also a walker. She could walk for miles enjoying the scenery around the city.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her two children; David S. Smith of Keene and Steven D. Smith and his wife, Jessica of Keene. Her significant other, Harry A. Winter of Keene. A sister, Patricia Lang and her husband Phillip of Matthews, N.C. Two grandchildren; Coleman Smith and Evan Smith of Keene. In addition, she leaves; cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 10:30am. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. In keeping with Joyce’s wishes there are no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Joyce C.
