Jose Joe I. Medina 82 a long time resident of Winchester died on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland. He passed away peacefully after a period of decline.

Joe was born the son of the late Elena (Arellano) and Amarante Medina on February 24, 1931 in San Cristobal, New Mexico. He attended school in Colorado and graduated from Center High School class of 1950.

On May 5, 1952 Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on February 6, 1956 at the rank of Private First Class after serving in the Korean War. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Boiler Technician serving on the U.S.S. Macon CA-132, Baltimore Class Heavy Cruiser which was the first Naval vessel to pass threw the St. Lawrence Seaway. He served until May 7, 1960 receiving another honorable discharge at the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.

On December 29, 1963 he exchanged vows with Marilyn A. Maack in a simple service in Troy. They have been married for almost fifty years.

Joe was employed as a mechanic at Grants Department Store and Subaru of Keene before retiring in 1996. He then worked part time for ten years at Napa in Keene.

He was a man of faith and attended St. Stanislaus, Mary Queen of Peace Church in Winchester. Joe enjoyed watching NASCAR and Rodeo bull and horse riding on Television. Joe was a friend of Bill W. for many years. It was said that Joe was a mans man.

Mr. Medina is survived by his wife Marilyn A. Medina of Winchester. He also leaves his siblings; Dora Medina and Emile Medina, and Virginia Cordova, Bobby Cordova and Max Cordova. In addition he leaves Cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Joe is pre deceased by his siblings; Jake Medina, Gilbert Medina, Ruby Medina, Lee Cordova, Louise Medina Mary Ellen Cordova and Mary Medina.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 10 to 11am. with a Liturgy of the Word to follow at 11am. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Jose I. Medina to the Alzheimers Association, 3701 Pender Dr. Ste 400, Fairfax, VA. 22030.
