John W. Traverse, 70 of Hinsdale and formerly a long-time resident of Richmond died on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. He passed after a period of declining health.

John was born the son of Ruby (Luce) and the late Arthur Traverse on December 13, 1947 in in Barre, VT. He was educated in Hartford, VT. and graduated from Hartford High school class of 1964.

On July 5, 1969 he exchanged vows with Donna M. Leclaire at St. Michael’s Church in Brattleboro. They were married with family and friends in attendance and have been married for forty-nine years.

John worked for Brattleboro Haulage as a truck driver for two years before retiring in 2012. Prior, he had worked for Watson town Trucking for a few years and D.D. Bean Trucking for eighteen years in similar roles.

John was a man of great faith and a communicant of St. Stanislaus, Mary Queen of Peace Church in Winchester for many years. He enjoyed hunting and playing golf in his free time. John was musically inclined and played the fiddle and harmonica. He was also a man who gave freely to his community, church and faith. John was a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus, Council 6921 in Hinsdale for many years. For his unwavering commitment he was awarded the knight of the year for 2018. He worked for the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Stan’s Church in the food pantry for those in need. He could be found most Sunday mornings greeting parishioners at church and was an altar server. He will be greatly missed by his community.

Mr. Traverse is survived by his wife, Donna L. Traverse of Hinsdale. His mother Ruby E. Traverse, of Williamstown VT. His children; Chad E. Traverse of Grafton, Julie R. Swanson and her husband, Timothy of Hinsdale and Jeffrey J. Traverse of Hinsdale. Six grandchildren; Bethany, Michael and Raekwen Traverse. Cole, Aubrey and Cody Swanson. In addition, he leaves cousins, extended family and friends.

In keeping with John’s wishes there are no calling hours and burial will be private. A memorial mass sponsored by the Knights of Columbus will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 10:30am. in St. Stanislaus Church, Mary Queen of Peace, Richmond Rd. Winchester, NH. 03470. All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home and Crematories, 46 South Winchester St. Swanzey, NH. 03446.
