John Sullivan Kelly, of Tipp City, Ohio and Knockyclovaun, County Clare, Ireland passed away suddenly on August 20, 2018 in the United States. He was born in Dublin, Ireland on November 22, 1954, to T.C. and Mary (Joyce) Kelly.

John was an accomplished musician and a gifted arts entrepreneur who spent almost twenty years developing the Irish Chamber Orchestra into a world-class cultural ambassador for Ireland. As its CEO, John built a permanent home for the organization at the University of Limerick, established relationships with many of the world’s leading musicians and composers, and created an innovative music program for children in Limerick’s regeneration areas.

John was a man of great faith, who gave credit to his God for all that he accomplished. His faith, combined with his sunny personality, lit up every room he walked into. John will be sorely missed by his wife, Ellen Fowler, their children Sarah Jane, AJ, and Bethie, Sarah’s mother Bernie, his five brothers, Gerry, Chris, Paul, James, and Robert, and the rest of his family, as well as friends and colleagues across the globe.

There will be a memorial service for John at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 15th at Glasnevin Centenary Chapel in Glasnevin, Ireland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sing Out With Strings; please contact the offices of the Irish Chamber Orchestra for details.
