John F. Whitney, 73, a long time resident of Swanzey died on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Applewood Care Center in Winchester. He passed peacefully while sleeping after a period of declining health.

John was born the son of the late Alice R. (Willette) and George E. Whitney in Keene on February 1, 1942. He was educated in Swanzey and attended Keene schools.

On May 26, 1967 he exchanged vows with Janice N. Robb at the Swanzey Community Church in Swanzey. They were married with family and friends in attendance and have been married for forty eight years.

John worked at Troy Mills in Troy for over twenty years. He held many positions while at the mill and retired in 1998.

He enjoyed many things in life. Time was spent with his family. He was an avid horseman. He raised, bred, trained, showed and drove horses. He was also an animal lover, especially his dog “Mishu” John was also civically minded. He was a member of the New Hampshire Horse and Trails, New England Horseman’s Council and the Colonial Miniature Horseman’s Club. He was also the leader of the Tiny Trotters 4-H club and one of the founders of the Happy Trails riding club.

Mr. Whitney is survived by his wife Janice N. Whitney of Swanzey. His son, William R. Clark and his significant other Karen Black of Winchendon, MA. Nine grandchildren; Rebecca Welch, Shannon Clark, Trevor Faulkner, Daniel Clark, Douglas Clark, Courtney Clark, Haley Clark, Jordyn Clark and Chelsea Croteau. A son in-law, Roger Joslyn of Swanzey and a daughter in-law Donna Clark of Winchester. In addition he leaves six great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. John in pre-deceased by his children; Dorinda R. Joslyn who passed in 2004 and Robert A. Clark who passed in 2014. His siblings; Richard Whitney, Darrell Whitney and Eugena Allen all passed earlier.
