James “Jim” E. Harris, 70, a longtime resident of Keene died peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Pine Heights Nursing Home in Brattleboro. He passed peacefully while sleeping after a brief period of declining health.

James was born the son of the late Margaret (Estes) and Oscar Harris on November 5, 1947 in Keene. He was educated locally in the Monadnock Regional School District and graduated from Monadnock Regional High School class of 1965. Jim went on in his studies and graduated from Keene State College with a Masters of Science in Education.

On April 23, 1970 he exchanged vows with Jane M. Thompson. They were married with family and friends in attendance at the United Church of Christ in Winchester. Sadly, Jane passed on October 21, 2016 after forty-six years of marriage.

Jim was a teacher and educator for the Monadnock Regional School District in Swanzey. He worked in various schools over his career and retired in 2002 after thirty-four years in the district.

He was a long-time member of the United Church of Christ in Keene. Time was spent exploring and playing games on his computer. He enjoyed playing cards, cooking and going out to the various restaurants in the region.

Mr. Harris is survived by his sister, Ruth M. Hayn of Swanzey. In addition, he leaves; cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jim is pre-deceased by his son Mark J. Harris who passed in 2009 and a sister, Elizabeth J. Curtis in 2003

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10am. in the family lot at Monadnock View Cemetery, Park St. Keene, NH. 03431. All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel and Crematories, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. WWW.cheshirefamilyfh.com
