Glenn Earle Martin

86 of Keene died on Saturday, December 18, 2011 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Cheshire Medical Center in Keene after a brief period of failing health. He passed with the love and compassion of family at his side. Glenn has been a local resident all of his life.

Glenn was born the son of Myrtie B. (Perry) and Warren E. Martin on June 24, 1925 in Richmond, New Hampshire. He was educated locally and attended schools in Richmond and Swanzey leaving as so many of his generation did after completion of the eighth grade.

On August 28, 1948 he took his vows to Dorothy L. Secord. They had been happily married for sixty three years before her passing on October 12, 2011.

Glenn was one of the greatest generation serving his county in the U.S. Army during World War II. His time was served in the European Theatre of Operations as a member of the 132nd. Field Artillery Battalion. He served his time with distinction and was released from duty at the rank of Tech 5 with an honorable discharged.

Mr. Martin worked as a machine operator for the Markem Company in Keene for ten years before his retirement in 1990. He previously worked at Sprague and Carltons in a similar position.

Glenn was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He liked to hunt and fish in younger years. He took great pride in raising his two daughters. Later on he was fortunate to be a grandfather then a great grandfather. Glenn was very witty and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed having a nice car and would spend lots of time keeping it clean and well maintained. He loved to spend time with all his daughters and had a special bond with both his son in laws and doting over his granddaughter Heather and great grandson Brody.

Mr. Martin is survived by his daughters; Joyce A. Samsel and her husband Philip of Keene and Joan E Meltzer of Keene. His granddaughter, Heather Towle, her husband Michael and great grandson, Brody Towle all of Merrimack. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He is pre deceased by his wife Dorothy L. Martin. his parents, Myrtie and Warren Martin and son in law, Larry Meltzer. He is also pre deceased by his siblings; Harold Martin, Pearl Bergeron, Hazel Knight, Carrie Pratt and Chester Martin.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 11am. in the family lot at Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Ave., Keene. All who knew Glenn are encouraged to attend. At Mr. Martins request there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations should be made in memory of Glenn E.
