George “Bud” E. Rokes Jr. 84, a long-time resident of Winchester and formerly of Surry died on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Applewood Care Center in Winchester. He passed peacefully with the love of family near.

George was born the son of the late Dorothy (Sessions) and George E. Rokes Sr. on February 24, 1934 in Antrim. He was educated in Keene and Richmond.

On January 1, 1977 he exchanged vows with Roberta (Birdie) Moore in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance at their home in Winchester.

Bud was a logger, sawyer, truck driver and heavy equipment operator for several companies including SUR WEST in Winchester before retiring in 1999, but continued working for several more years.

Bud enjoyed four wheeling, snowmobiling, golfing and going to his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a long-time member of the Snowmobile Club of Winchester.

Mr. Rokes is survived by his wife, Birdie Rokes of Winchester. His children; Gary Rokes and his partner, Lynn Carpenter of Winchester, Kathy Collier and her husband, Carl of Zephyr Hills, FL. Julie Rokes and her husband, Marc Richard of Winchester, Troy Rokes and his partner, Allison Dantes of Winchester and Jennifer Lyman and her husband, Justin of Richmond. His siblings; Alicia Penna and her husband Dick of Marlborough, Bernie Rokes of Stoddard, Russell Rokes of Keene, Barbara LaClair of Swanzey and Sandra Everard of Swanzey. Grandchildren; Kyle Rokes, Jarrod Rokes, Marcus Rokes, Wyatt Crowell, James Rokes, Lori Emery, Alison Farmer, Brian Collier, Tammy Bowles and Tara Neiman. In addition, he leaves several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bud is pre-deceased by his siblings; Juanita Knight and Bruce Rokes.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 5 to 7pm. in the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 10am. in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Forrest Lake Rd. Winchester, NH. 03470. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer monetary donations be made in memory of George E. Rokes Jr. to: Monadnock Humane Society, 101 Swanzey Rd.
