Evelyn P. (Pratt) Carpenter 85 of Keene died on October 13, 2009 at Westwood Nursing Home after a period of decline. She passed with the love and devotion of her family at her side.
Evelyn was born the daughter of Mary E. (Cone) and Edward L. Pratt on April 25, 1924 in Keene. She was educated locally and graduated from Keene Normal School class of 1942. She has been a resident of the Keene area all of her life.
On July 14, 1956 she took her vows to Fred A. Carpenter in Keene. They were happily married for 38 years before he died in May of 1995.
Mrs. Carpenter was been gainfully employed by the Bank of New Hampshire as a book keeper. She had worked for them for 15 years before her retirement in 2005. Evelyn has worked for numerous banks in similar positions all of her adult life.
Evelyn loved animals, especially dogs. She and her husband bread and raised Beagles for show and time trials. They would travel frequently for shows and to deliver show dogs. Her passion for dogs was well known. Her personal life was very private and simple. She was very quiet and reserved. The one group she enjoyed attending and participating with was the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion of Keene.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her daughters; Linda E. Denico and her husband Warren of West Swanzey. Her other daughter Joan Watkins Barrett and her husband David of Schaghticoke, NY. Her grand children will miss her presence leaving; David Barrett Jr. and his wife Holly of Sullivan, Colony Wilhelm of Keene, Katherine Barrett and her husband Gary Shrmek of West Barnstable, MA. Melissa Barrett of Cromwell, CT. Evans Barrett and his wife Jill of Spearman, TX. Malinda Bates, Tania Denico of Keene, Warren Denico III. Her extended family; Leon Pratt and his wife Ellen of Temple, MA. John Simo of Milford, Shirley Levesque of Mt. Vernon, Ralph Pratt and his wife Norma of Gillette, NJ. She also leaves other extended family and friends. Evelyn is pre-deceased by her brother Ralph Pratt Sr. and a grandson Derek Denico who died in August of 2007.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.. Funeral rights will follow at 11 a.m. all in the funeral home. Burial will occur in the family lot at Mtn. View Cemetery, Rt. 32 South, Swanzey. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family has requested donations be made in memory of Evelyn Carpenter to Hospice and Community Services of Keene, 312 Marlborough St. Keene, NH. 03431 or the Monadnock Humane Society, P.O. Box 678, West Swanzey, NH. 03469.
