Eugene (Pete) R. Howland
Eugene (Pete) R. Howland 62 of Winchester died peacefully on May 18, 2012 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a brief period of decline.
He was born the son of Thelma V. (Rolf) and John H. Howland on July 22, 1949 in Keene. He was educated locally and graduated from Thayer High School class of 1968. Pete later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal on May 21, 1974.
Pete worked for thirty years as a book binder for the Quebecor and Book Press Companies. He retired in 2000.
On May 15, 1971 Pete exchanged his vows with Susan D. Frost at the Unitarian Church in Winchester. They were married with family and friends in attendance. The Howlands recently celebrated their forty first anniversary.
Pete liked motorcycles and stock car racing. In his younger years he liked to go camping with his family. He also enjoyed riding his tractor and could be seen mowing the lawn. He was a long time member of the VFW, Post 3966 in Winchester. Pete was a family man and enjoyed being with his kids and eventually his grandchildren.
Mr. Howland is survived by his wife, Susan D. Howland of Winchester. He is also survived by his children; Heidi L. Whitney of Winchester and Peter J. Howland of Winchester. He leaves his mother, Thelma Howland of Winchester. His brother, James Howland of Winchester and grandchildren; David Whitney, Nickolas Howland, Brodie Howland and Keona Walker. Pete is predeceased by his father, John Howland and brother John Howland Jr.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 11am. in the family lot with full military honors at Evergreen Cemetery, Richmond Rd. Winchester, NH. 03470. There are no calling hours.
