David C. Shepardson, 74, of Roxbury and formerly of Hillsborough and Keene died on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. He passed peacefully in the comfort of his home with the love of family near after a period of declining health.

David was born the son of the late Esther (Wheeler) and Daniel Shepardson on September 29, 1944 in Chicago, IL. He was educated In Massachusetts and graduated from Athol High School class of 1962. David went on in his studies where he attended Mount Wachusett Community College for two years.

On February 21, 1963 David enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was trained as a ground radio operator. He served his time during the Vietnam War with the 729 Tactical Control Squadron. He was the recipient of the Small Armed Expert Rifle Award, National Service Defense Ribbon and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 20, 1967 at the rank of A1C -E4.

On May 17, 1963 he exchanged vows with Virginia R. White at the Athol Congregational Church. They were married with family and friends in attendance and have been married for fifty-five years.

David worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for thirty-three years in various positions, culminating as a project manager. He retired in 1999 to enjoy his golden years with his family.

He enjoyed photography, hunting, classic and antique cars. He had a fascination with bulldozers. Time was spent working on his bull dozers and excavating with them. He always had a project or a dream of designing and building large landscapes. David gave freely of his time too, involved with the Keene Area Classic Car Club and was a member of the North Quabbin Masonic Lodge in Athol where he was a fifth-generation member.

Mr. Shepardson is survived by his wife, Virginia R. Shepardson of Roxbury. His children; Daniel S. Shepardson and his wife, Mary of Keene and Andrew D. Shepardson of Roxbury. His siblings; John D. Shepardson and his significant other, Carol Roberts of Inverness, FL. Judy Howland and her husband, Bill of Athol, MA. and Robert Shepardson and his wife, Peggy of Athol, MA. His grandchildren; Melissa Adkins, Michael Parkhurst and Christopher Parkhurst.

His sister in-laws and brother in-law; Sharon-Shepardson, Cathy Shepardson and John Telepciak . In addition, he leaves; cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. David is predeceased by his siblings; Richard Shepardson, Nola Shepardson-Telepciak and Donald Shepardson.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 5 to 7pm. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 10am. all in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family lot with military honors at Maple Cemetery, Athol-Richmond Rd. Rt. 32. Royalston, MA. 01368. Flowers will gladly be accepted.
