Carroll E. Reed, 89, loving husband, father, grandfather and longtime resident of the Keene area, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene, after a period of declining health. He passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.

Carroll was born the son of the late Ruth (Hunt) and Wirt Reed on July 20, 1926 in Gardiner, Maine. He grew up in Randolph, Maine and graduated from Gardiner High School in 1944.

After high school he joined the U.S. Navy during the later years of WWII. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands of Attu and Adak and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Carroll then attended the University of Maine at Orono where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1950.

On November 26, 1952 he exchanged vows with Lois Glazier in Gardiner, Maine with family and friends in attendance. The Reeds were married for sixty three years.

Carroll was employed by National Grange Mutual Insurance Company in Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire for over thirty years. He retired from the Keene office in 1983.

Carroll enjoyed playing golf, doing puzzles, feeding and watching the birds, playing games, reading newspapers, visiting Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos and watching beloved Red Sox. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with the family he deeply loved.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Reed of Surry; his children, Nancy Pratt and her husband Robert of Merrimack and Jane Fecto and her husband Terry of Surry; his grandchildren Nicholas Pratt and his wife Heather, and Jennifer Pratt all of Merrimack; his sisters in-law, Arlene Gardner and Jean Glazier; brothers-in-law Fred Gardner, Sumner Glazier Jr., George Jewett and George Gould. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In keeping with Carrolls wishes, there are no formal services. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 1 to 3pm. at Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel and Crematories, 44 Maple Ave., Keene, NH 03431. Burial will take place later at the Veterans Cemetery in Augusta, ME. The family has requested that donations be made in memory of Carroll E. Reed to: Wreaths Across America, P.O. Box 249, Columbia Falls, ME 04623. Wreaths will be delivered to the Augusta Veterans Cemetery on December 17, 2016.
