Carroll “Curt” H. Higley, 84, a long-time resident of Ashuelot, NH and formerly of Brattleboro, VT died on Friday, August 24, 2018. He passed peacefully in the comfort of his home with the love of family at his side after a period of declining health.

Curt was born the son of the late Mary (Neill) and Clarence Higley on October 1, 1933 in Waitsfield, VT.

He was educated in Brattleboro and graduated from Brattleboro Union High School with the class of 1954. Soon after high school Curt enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his enlistment during the Korean War in South Korea as a Combat Engineer with Co. A. 11th Engineering Battalion APO 301. He was honorably discharged at the rank of SP3 / Specialist E3 with a Good Conduct Medal.

On October 29, 1971 he exchanged vows with Donna Perkins in Vernon, VT. They were married in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance. Sadly, Donna died on January 30, 2013 after forty-one years of marriage.

Curt worked as an electrician for the IBEW Local 490 based out of Concord. He worked diligently for the union for twenty-five years before retiring in 1995.

Curt enjoyed many things in life. In his younger years he liked to hunt, fish, hike and go camping with his family. He was an avid football fan and could be found coaching from the couch whenever possible. Mostly, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, and in time grandfather and great grandfather.

Mr. Higley is survived by his children; Linda J. Mansur of Greenville, SC, Laura L. Castine of Ashuelot NH, Kimberley S. Higley of Swanzey NH, Michael Higley of Tennessee, and Kathy DelToro of Pittsfield, MA. He leaves 10 grandchildren; Thomas P. Mansur, Michael F. Mansur, Travis J. Castine, Sylvia M. Patenaude, Ashley L. Thompson, Shanna Boyd, Krista Williams, Jeremy Higley, Jessica Martin, and Kristin DelToro. Ten great grandchildren; Jayylin, Kiley, Haylei, Carly, Mya, Minka, Mason, Liam, Nolan, and Evrit. His siblings; Delbert Higley of Brattleboro, Inez Laskowski of Chesterfield, Elwin Higley and his wife Betty of Chesterfield and Janette Page and her husband Edward of FL. In addition, he leaves; cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Curt is pre-deceased by his siblings; Forrest Higley and Mert Higley.

Burial will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11am in the family lot with Military Honors at Chesterfield West Cemetery, Poor Rd. Chesterfield, NH. 03443. A gathering to celebrate Curt’s life will be held at 1pm at the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Main St. Winchester, NH. 03470. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Carroll H.
