Carolyn A. (Hirschmann) Ferguson

Carolyn A. (Hirschmann) Ferguson, 89, of Keene, NH (formerly of Grantham) as well as East Setauket and Champlain, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Maplewood Nursing Home, Westmoreland, NH.

She was born to the late Hazel (Yehle) and Joseph F. Hirschmann on August 25, 1933, in New York City. Carolyn attended St. Angela Hall Academy in Brooklyn, N.Y. graduating in 1952. She continued her education at the New York School of Interior Design. She also enjoyed the opportunity of being an advertising model in N.Y.C.

Carolyn first met the love of her life, Bruce J. Ferguson, at the Mountain View House in Whitefield, NH, in 1953 where they both worked for the summer. They were married in Burlington, Vermont on December 31, 1956. They then made their home in Champlain, NY where they raised their 3 children until relocating in the spring of 1981. Bruce and Carolyn were happily married for 64 years until Bruce passed away on July 25, 2021.

Ferguson, CCarolyn worked at Macy’s Department Store in Smithtown, N.Y. for 20 years. She had many interests in life such as antiquing, decorating, fashion, snow skiing, camping, and hiking with their “Mountain Group” friends as well as traveling the U.S. extensively and internationally. She was involved with the Champlain, NY “Friends of the Library”, and initiated both a Gourmet Club and a Bridge Club with local friends that met monthly in the fall and winter for years. While raising their three children she became involved as a Cub Scout Den Mother with her sons and participated with her daughter through the ranks of Girl Scouting. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines North Atlantic Region 1 Chapter where she performed in many productions and competitions.

Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her children and their spouses; Ian J. Ferguson and wife Maryanne of Marlborough, NH, Kathryn A. Fiske and husband Robert of Chazy, NY and Timothy J. Fergusson and wife Tricia of Altona, NY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Matthew Guay, Mallory Fletcher (Nick), Colin Fergusson, Heather Guay (Arman Rashidi), Will Ferguson, Spencer Fergusson (Chelsea), Stuart Ferguson, and Nolan Fergusson (Kellie). In addition, she is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Ethan Fletcher, Jackson Fletcher, Harper Fletcher, and Soren Rashidi.

A Catholic Mass of Christian burial will be held later, in the summer of 2023 and burial will take place at the family plot in the Summer St. Cemetery, Lancaster, NH.
