Carl E. Jefts Jr. 78, of Swanzey and formerly of Interlachen, Fl. died on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Applewood Nursing Home in Winchester. He passed peacefully after a period of declining health with his family near.
Carl was born the son of the late Lillian (Bardwell) and Carl E. Jefts Sr. on September 22, 1936 in Keene. He was educated locally and attended schools in Swanzey and Keene.
Carl exchanged vows with Janet Hall in 1969. Sadly she passed on December 19, 1982. Carl was also previously married to Myrna (Curtis) Wood.
He worked as a craftsman, builder and supervisor for the Florida Furniture Factory in Palatka, Florida for over twenty years. Prior he was employed at Sprague and Carlton in Keene for thirty years in similar roles.
In his leisure time Carl enjoyed bottle digging, softball and golfing. He was a fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Carl was always up for a good game of cribbage. Time was spent in his early years; as a member of the West Swanzey Drum and Bugle Corps, the West Swanzey Athletic Association and a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Swanzey Fire Department.
Mr. Jefts is survived by his children and their spouses; Kevin L. Jefts and his wife Holly of Winchester and Lori A. Metcalf and her husband Doug of Swanzey. His children from a combined marriage; Kelley Wood of Washington, DC. Tom Wood of Swanzey and Robert Bobby Wood and his wife Trish of Canaan. Eight grandchildren; Heather, Ashlee, Andy, Lindsey, Tommy, Nicole, Evan and Autumn and Three great-grandchildren. Carl is predeceased by his siblings; Russell Jefts, Barbara Goodell, Pauline Polly Franklin, Gale Jefts and Doug Jefts.
A period of calling will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 10 to 11am. with a service to follow at 11 all in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherry St. West Swanzey. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Carl E.
