Burton “Burt” L. Emerson

Emerson, B.Burton “Burt” L. Emerson, 93, of Keene, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the Keene Center Genesis Nursing Home.

He was born the son of the late Violet (Lowe) and Leon Emerson on October 28, 1929, in Hanover. He was educated at Bradford High School in Bradford, VT. and graduated class of 1947.

After high school, Burton enlisted into the United States Army where he served as an Infantryman. He was the recipient of the Marksmanship Badge. He was honorably discharged after 3 years of service at the rank of E-3 Corporal.

On April 22, 1953, Burt exchanged vows with the love of his life, Barbara J. Lower. They had a simple service in Bradford, VT. and were happily married for the past 57 years until Barbara passed away back in 2011. Burt met Lorraine M. (Fisher) Spaulding and they spent 11 years together until she passed away in 2022.

Burton enjoyed working for Hubbard’s Chicken Farm in Walpole for 25 years until he retired in 1991. Burt also worked for Whiting Milk Company in Bradford, VT. Bowen Bobbing Company in East Corinth, VT. Arbor Archer Farm and Robert Speec Farm both in Vermont.

Along with working, Burton enjoyed many hobbies in life. He loved to be outdoors by going out hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, mowing lawns, and working on his flower garden. Burt loved being a part of the Walpole Seniors Organization.

Mr. Emerson is survived by his children Larry Emerson of Merrimack and Evelyn Merkle of Keene. He is also survived by his three siblings, Donald Emerson of CT. Richard Piper of CT. and Maurice Piper and his wife Jo Anne of CT. his 7 grandchildren, his 11 great-grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Burt is predeceased by his parents, his wife, his daughter Shirley Emerson who passed in 2010, and his two siblings, Marie Capen and James Emerson.

Services will be held later in the spring of 2023 with dates and times to be announced later online and in the local newspaper. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.
