Bruce Purrington

Bruce W. Purrington, 83, of Winchester and formerly of Westport New Hampshire, Grey Maine and Whitehall, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born a son to the late Richard Purrington and Mary (Annear) on November 16, 1940. He was educated in local schools.

After school, Bruce enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country with honor and distinction during the Vietnam War, earning the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged at the rank of E-3 on February 2, 1964.

On August 25, 2018, Bruce exchanged vows with Greta M. (Johnson). They had a simple service in the Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Winchester. The Purringtons had been married for 5 years.

Bruce had worked at Kingsbury for many years, along with Sams Army and Navy and Hamshaw Lumber in Keene, retiring in 2002.

Bruce PurringtonBruce loved spending time with his family and friends. He always looked forward to hunting with his son and grandsons. He enjoyed boating, going shooting, fishing and bird watching. When he wasn’t out in the wilderness you could find him selling and buying guns, playing board games, reading and going on road trips. Bruce was also a Deacon at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Winchester. He would lead Bible Studies and Veteran Support groups at the Jaffrey Rehabilitation Center. He prided himself on being an advocate for all the residents who could not speak for themselves at the Rehabilitation Center. He was also a member of the VFW in Winchester and Brattleboro where he was a chaplain for many years.

Bruce PurringtonMr. Purrington is survived by his loving wife, Greta Purrington of Jaffrey; as well as his children, his son Alan Purrington and his wife, Diane of Troy, his daughter Tammy M Pearsall and her husband, Michael of Richmond, his daughter Deborah L Wilson and her husband Tim of Troy and his daughter Lisa J. Hackney and her husband Tim of Mechanicsville, MD. He is also survived by his stepchildren Ronald Thompson, Robin Meierbaetol, Scott Thompson, Keith Thomas, Melissa Thomas, Deanne Thomas and Linda Oldenburg. As well as 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his siblings Beverly Meade, Bradley Purrington and Brenda Smith.

A service and celebration of life will be held on December 30, 2023, at 1:00 pm in the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 81 Ashuelot Street Winchester, NH. 03470. A burial with military honors will take place at 2 pm on January 22, 2024, in the Veteran Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made out in Bruce’s name to Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 81 Ashuelot St Winchester NH 03470.
