Brian Lambert Pickering 54 of West Swanzey died on January 22, 2011 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene Medical Center after a period of failing health. He passed peacefully with the love and compassion of his family at his side.
Brian was born the son of Olive L. (Lambert) and Donald L. Pickering on January 5, 1957 in Keene. Brian was educated locally and graduated from Monadnock Regional High School class of 1975.
Mr. Pickering was a painting contractor and has worked in the field for over 20 years. He has been recently employed by the S. and S. Paint Company in West Swanzey for the past 10 years.
He has resided in West Swanzey with his devoted partner in life, Martha A. Joyal, where they have shared a home for the past 8 years. Although they never married, they lived a life of love, devotion and mutual trust for each other as a married couple would. Prior to settling in West Swanzey he lived in Stoddard and Keene.
Brian was a lover of animals and an amateur farmer. He loved the simpler life working with his hands and taking care of all kinds of animals. He also enjoyed candlepin bowling, fishing, NASCAR and riding his motorcycle, a Suzuki Intruder. In his younger years it was very common to see Brian coach his kids baseball and softball teams. He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a mentor and liked to go camping with the kids. He was a loving and devoted father and spouse.
Mr. Pickering is survived by his two children; Joshua D. Pickering and his wife Lindsay of Swanzey and his daughter Brianne L. Pickering of Keene. He also leaves his life partner, Martha A. Joyal of West Swanzey, his mother Olive L. Pickering of Keene. His two siblings; Michael A. Pickering and his wife Diane of Murfreesboro, TN. and Deborah M. Pickering of Keene. Brian is pre-deceased by his father Donald L. Pickering who passed in 2001. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 10am. all in the funeral home. Burial will be private. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer monitory donations be made in memory of Brian L. Pickering to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Rd. Swanzey, NH. 03446.
