Bernice C. (Crosby) Dunbar, 100 of Brattleboro died while sleeping on July 8, 2013 at Thompson House in Brattleboro.
She was born the daughter of the late Cora (Bogle) and Leon Crosby on May 9, 1913 in East Dummerston , VT. She was educated locally and graduated from Brattleboro High School class of 1930. She continued on in her studies receiving a diploma in education in 1932 from Castle College in Castleton , VT.
Bernice was a teacher by trade. She worked with students in the Dummerston and Mt. Holly school systems. She retired in 1948 and became a house wife and stay at home mom. She also continued giving of her time and home to be a foster parent for many years.
On December 29, 1945 she exchanged vows with Kenneth F. Dunbar in a simple service in Charlestown , NH . They were married for almost sixty years before he passed on June 2, 2005.
She was a long time member of the Guilford Community Church . Her passion in life was her family and her faith.
Mrs. Dunbar is survived by her children; Leon F. Dunbar of Duxbury, VT and Donald Cudworth of Lynchburg , VA. Five grandchildren: Jay Cudworth, Shane Cudworth, Kenneth Dunbar, Leon Dunbar Jr. and Barbara Amidon. She also leaves four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her sister Evelyn Fuller.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10 am. in the Guilford Community Church , 38 Church Rd. Guilford , VT. 05301. Burial will be private. Donations can be made in memory of Bernice C. Dunbar to:
