Bernard EllisBernard J. Ellis, 89, of Swanzey and formerly of Suffield, CT. passed away unexpectedly after a period of declining health on Thursday, December 28, 2023, with the love of family by his side.

He was born a son to the late Delia F. (Fallon) and Augustus R. Ellis on April 28, 1934, in Keene. Bernard was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1952. He continued his education by earning his Bachelors in education at Keene State College. Bernard went on to earn his M.Ed from the University of Hartford and his Ed.d from Boston University

On June 18th, 1956, Bernard exchanged vows with the love of his life, Eleanor L. Webber. They had a simple service at St. Bernard Church in Keene with family and friends Bernard Elliscelebrating them.

Bernard enjoyed his time working for the Suffield School System in Connecticut as their Superintendent for 11 years until he retired in 1995. Prior, he worked for SAU 29 in Keene as the assistant superintendent for towns for 5 years. He also worked for Red Hool New York school district for 2 years as the superintendent.

Along with working, Bernard had many hobbies in life such as playing on a flight simulator or other games, and attending Broadway shows or other live entertainment. He also loved spending his time reading a good book and going on travel adventures.

Bernard EllisMr. Ellis is survived by his wife, Eleanor Ellis of Swanzey, their son, Brian Ellis of Swanzey, and a grandchild Kerrie L. Cooley, and her husband Josh Cooley of Denver. Along with many extended family and friends. Bernard was predeceased by his parents, along with his son, Kevin P. Ellis who passed away in 2002.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. A Mass with Christian Burial to follow will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. Bernard Church Parish of the Holy Spirit, 185 Main St. Keene, Nh. 03431. Burial to follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery, 600 Main St. Keene, NH. 03431. Flowers will gladly be accepted. All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel and Crematories, Keene.
