Bernard (Bernie) J. Fleming
Bernard (Bernie) J. Fleming 73 of West Chesterfield, NH. died on Sunday, August 19, 2012. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born the son of Elsie (Geiger) and Joseph Fleming on Sept. 12, 1938 in Brattleboro, VT.
Bernie was the owner and operator of the Fleming Funeral Home in Brattleboro. He took over the business from his father which he ran for many years. As a funeral director in his lifes work, he assisted generations of many local families. He did this with tremendous care and respect through the difficult time following the loss of a loved one. He was also the owner and operator of the Fleming Ambulance Service.
He enjoyed fishing, listening to music and had a deep abiding love for animals and nature. He found pleasure in spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. In recent years he appreciated the service and care of the Oncology Department at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and cherished the friendships established during this time. He was a communicant of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Brattleboro.
Survivors include his wife of twenty nine years Geraldine (Smith) Fleming. Three sons; Patrick Fleming of Hinsdale, N.H. Timothy Fleming and James Fleming of Brattleboro, VT. Two daughters; Marybeth Fleming of Brattleboro, VT. and Lynette Soucia of Marlborough, NH. Eight grandchildren; Alec Fleming and Emma Fleming of Hinsdale, NH. Samuel Stevens, Elsie Fleming and Olive Fleming of Brattleboro, VT. Ryan Soucia, Marcus Soucia and Bailee Soucia of Marlborough, NH. Two sisters; Joan Dudek of Dover, NH. and Pauline Hanley of Greenfield, MA. He is pre deceased by two sisters; Patricia Reis and Mary Kathryn Simas.
In keeping with Mr. Flemings wishes, burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
