Barbara R. (Chickering) Hook, 74, a life-time resident of Keene died on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family.

Barbara was born the daughter of the late Ruth (Carey) and Morton Chickering on January 7, 1944 in Keene. She was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1962.

On January 9, 1965 she exchanged vows with David G. Hook at the United Church of Christ in Keene. They were married with family and friends in attendance and had been married just three days shy of their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary.

Barbara had many jobs and positions over the years. One of her most favorite jobs was working for the Head Start Program in Swanzey as a cook. She enjoyed being with the kids and retired in 2011. She also worked at the Fenton Family Dealerships in Keene as a driver for many years as well as Citizens Bank and the Cable Company. She and her husband were also the owners of Mac’s Place, a local restaurant and bar in Keene.

Barbara was a proud stay at home mom for many years raising her children and caring for her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and liked working on her flower gardens around their pool. She enjoyed playing pitch on Thursday nights and going dancing and singing and doing karaoke. When time permitted, she was always up for a trip to the casinos. She was full of life and enjoyed spending the winter months at their home in Venice, Fl. Barbara cherished her grandchildren and spent a lot of time with them teaching them to swim, cook and play cards. Barbara also loved animals, especially her cat Sully.

Barbara is survived by her husband David G. Hook of Keene. Her four children; Susan E. Zinn of Richmond, Sheryl A. Trombly and her husband Edward of Keene, David G. Hook, Jr. of Keene and Jennifer L. Hook of Keene. Her grandchildren; Melissa Zinn, Adam Zinn, Zachary Trombly, Kelly Hook, Rebecca Hebb and Alexander Hook. Her sister in-law Cecile Chickering. Nieces and nephews; David Chickering, Daniel Chickering, Diane Glowacki, Martha Chickering and Darcy Husson. In addition, she leaves her best friends, Peggy and Butch Knox, cousins, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Barbara is pre-deceased by her brothers, Albert and Stanley Chickering.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10 to 12 noon in the funeral chapel. A gathering will immediate follow at the Elks Lodge in Keene, NH. Burial will take place privately in the spring. Flowers will gladly be accepted or donations can be made in memory of Barbara R. Hook in honor of her granddaughter, Rebecca Hebb, to the Epilepsy Foundation at epilepsy.com/donate.
