Arthur (Art) William Purdy 60 of Marlborough and former long time resident of Keene, died after a long period of failing health. He passed peacefully in the familiar surroundings of his home with the love and compassion of his family and close friends present on December 6, 2010.

Art was born the son of Laurette (Hebert) and William Purdy on September 22, 1950 in Keene. He was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1968. After high school Art went on to study to be an electrician. With time and persistence he became a Master Electrician.

On December 13, 1968 Mr. Purdy took his vows to Lorraine E. Audet at St. Matthew’s Parish in Whitefield, NH. with friends and family in attendance. They have been married for almost 42 loving years.

Art had been gainfully employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 490 for 28 years as a Master Electrician. He also was the former owner of Purdy Electric and had worked at one point for Kingsbury’s of Keene. He was at one time the Manager of Facilities Management for Cheshire Hospital and Union Hospital in Lynn, MA. He was the co-owner of Video Reflections in Keene.

Mr. Purdy was a man of faith and a member of St. Bernard’s Parish in Keene. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, dancing with his wife, music and water skiing. He would go ice skating and liked cars, especially his Corvettes. He was a family man at heart, taking trips with family and friends, going on picnics and loved big barbeques. Art liked to use his hands to build props with his son and tinker on cars. Winter was a time for him to have fun plowing the whole neighborhood.

Arthur is survived by his wife Lorraine E. Purdy of Marlborough. His two children; Jennifer J. Messer and her husband Mark of Keene. His son Jason J. Purdy and his significant other Melissa Cynewski of Keene. He also leaves his siblings; Patricia Vallieres and her husband John Hilliker of Rumney, William Purdy III and his wife Cathy of Sullivan. Pappa will be missed but not forgotten by his two grandchildren; Mark and Tianna Messer of Keene. He also leaves nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Arthur is pre-deceased by his parents and two sisters; Judith Roentsch and Jane Wilkes.

A celebration of life with a funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 9:30 am. in St. Margaret Mary Church. 35 Arch St. Keene, NH. 03431. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family has requested monetary donations be made in memory of Arthur W. Purdy. to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, C/O St. Bernard’s Church 161 Main St. Keene, NH. 03431.
