Arnold “Arnie” E. Martineau 86, a long time resident of Keene died on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. He passed suddenly and unexpectedly in the familiar surroundings of his home with his wife near.
He was born the son of the late Christine (Blood) and Edward Martineau on January 26, 1929 in Keene. Arnie was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1947.
Arnie was joined the U.S. Navy on September 14, 1948. He served his time on the U.S.S. Hugh Purvis DD-709 as a Class A. Ship’s Serviceman. Arnie was honorably discharged on June 26, 1950 at the rank of Seaman Apprentice E-3.
On October 11, 1956 he exchanged vows with Millicent “Millie” Brown. They were married in a simple service in Brattleboro, VT. with close family and friends in attendance. They will have been married fifty nine years this fall.
He was employed at Kingsbury Machine and Tool Co,, followed by Economy Plumbing & Heating. Within a few years Arnie established Martineau Plumbing and Heating Company in Keene, NH. He operated this business for thirty years before retiring in 1984.
Arnie enjoyed a variety of sports throughout his life. He cherished his time fishing and hunting over the years. In his younger years he played softball, basketball and football. He was quite the athlete in high school. He was an avid Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan. In addition to following their seasons and he enjoyed watching a variety of football teams. Arnold was well known in the trades and was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion and the VFW in Keene.
Mr. Martineau is survived by his wife, Millicent “Millie” Brown of Keene. His two children; Michael E. Martineau of Spofford and Heidi J. Potter and her husband Robert of Guilford, VT. His siblings; Robert Martineau of Keene and Richard Martineau and his wife Roberta of Keene. Sister-in-Law: Pauline Martineau of Keene. Grandchildren; Aaron Potter, Aisha Saunders, Chelsea Potter, Tyler Potter and Chad Martineau and a Great Grandaughter Rhyker Lord. He also cherished the many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in his life. Arnie is pre deceased by his brother Ralph Martineau and sister-in-law, Joanne Martineau.
In keeping with Arnie’s wishes there are no calling hours. A celebration of life service will be held on, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11am. in the funeral chapel, with military honors to be given.
