Alice (Apfel) Nolan Johnson

Alice (Apfel) Nolan Johnson, 86, of Swanzey and formerly Fitzwilliam, died on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Canter in Lebanon. She passed peacefully after a short illness with family near.

Alice was born on October 28, 1928, the daughter of Caroline (Buchler) and Joseph Apfel. She grew up in the Detroit, MI. area where she graduated from St. Claire High School in ST. Claire Shores MI.

She married William (“Willie”) Nolan, Jr. in 1949 in Michigan. They then traveled across the U.S. in their first years before settling in Fitzwilliam. Sadly he passed in 1955. Alice remarried again in January of 1957 to Arthur L. Johnson, Sr. He passed on January 8, 1999.

Alice worked for many years in the healthcare field, as a caregiver at several healthcare facilities. She touched many lives with her warm and expert care. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Troy, as well as being a member of the Meadowood Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary in Fitzwilliam.

Survivors include her children. Daughters; Ruth Tucker and her husband David, and Jane Nolan. Sons; Martin Nolan and his wife Denise, Robert Nolan and wife Kristine, and Russell Johnson and partner Nathalie Pelletier. Grandchildren; Craig Tucker, Douglas Tucker, Melanie (Nolan) Moran, Lori Nolan, and Benjamin Johnson. Six great-grandchildren. Her two sister; Marie Mathis and Carolyn Sparks. Three stepsons, Lloyd Johnson, Keith Johnson and David Johnson and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and close friend, Catherine Favreau. She is predeceased by her stepchildren; Arthur Johnson Jr. and Gertrude Harris and step grandson, Victor Johnson.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 2:00pm. at Christ Lutheran Church, Rte. 12N. 4 Fitzwilliam Rd. Troy, NH. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Christ Lutheran Church, 4 Fitzwilliam Rd. Troy, NH. 03465 or to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Rd. Swanzey, NH. 03446 or to a charity of one’s choice. All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home, 46 South Winchester St. Swanzey, NH. 03446.
