Alfred “Bucky” R. Chesley, 78, of Chesterfield and formerly of Hinsdale, passed away peacefully while resting on Monday, May 23, 2022, after a brief period of declining health.

He was born on July 29, 1943, the eldest child to the late Mary R. (Ciervo) and Harry E. Chesley in Winchendon, MA. Alfred attended Athol High School in Athol, MA, Class of 1962. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH, Class of 1992. Alfred served in the United States Navy Submarine Service on the USS Henry Clay and the USS Enterprise.

After he left the Navy, he joined RCA in Springfield, MA as a computer technician. He went to work for Vermont Yankee in Vernon, VT when the plant was being built in 1970. He worked his way up the ranks to Senior Reactor Operator and was also the Simulator Supervisor. He ended his career at Vermont Yankee with his retirement in 2002 as the Manager of Emergency Planning. His career at VT Yankee spanned 32 years. He loved his VT Yankee family and missed them very much when he retired.

On November 23, 1963, Alfred exchanged vows with the love of his life, Karen M. Adams at Our Lady Immaculate in Athol, MA. They were married for fifty-eight years.

Bucky enjoyed many hobbies over the years; riding motorcycles, camping, boating, martial arts, and dancing. In his younger years, he even raced motocross. He along with some of his VT Yankee buddies met regularly for motorcycle rides, even going on week-long trips. He was also a Hinsdale Volunteer Fireman, Boy Scout Leader, Little League Umpire, and Chesterfield School Board Member. He was very committed to Masonry, first in Hinsdale at the Golden Rule Lodge and then in Keene at Jerusalem Lodge. He was a past Worshipful Master of Golden Rule (1982) and he was a past Master of Jerusalem Lodge (2014) and a District Deputy Grand Lecturer. He was a Demolay Adviser and held the Demolay Legion of Honor for Distinguished Service. He was a member of Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

Mr. Chesley is survived by his wife, Karen Chesley of Chesterfield, his two children, Lisa M. Prince and her companion Adam Hogenmiller of Westmoreland, and Brad R. Chesley and his wife Kristin of Swanzey. His four siblings; Hazel Waslaske of Athol MA. Ida O’Brien and her husband Dennis of Baldwinville, MA. Marie Dio and her husband Robert of Holden, MA. and Harry Chesley Jr. and his wife Linda of Charlestown. Along with his four grandchildren; Devin Prince of Keene, Chandler Chesley of Keene, Branden Prince of Chesterfield, and Allison Jackson of Swanzey. His two great-grandchildren; Sophia and Conner Jackson. Bucky is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Cheshire Family Funeral Home in Keene. Burial will be at a later date. Although flowers will gladly be accepted, the family has requested that donations be made to:
